The East African Community (EAC) has officially launched the EAC Digital Trade Platform (EADTP), a revolutionary initiative designed to streamline cross-border commerce among the seven member states. The platform, unveiled at a ceremony in Arusha, Tanzania, aims to reduce trade barriers and accelerate economic integration in the region.
The digital platform will enable businesses to obtain trade permits, certificates of origin, and customs documentation online, reducing processing times from weeks to days. Key features include Single Window System, Real-time Tracking, Digital Payments, and Trade Information Database.
Kenyan Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria highlighted the platform’s potential to boost intra-regional trade, which currently stands at just 15% of total EAC trade. Our goal is to double this figure within five years.
